Dear Friend of Disability Rights:
Hi, Anita here. You know, the loudmouthed Black woman with the long, long dreadlocks. Many of you know me. I chant and sing and keep our folks pumped and motivated on ADAPT actions.
So much has happened in the past year!
I participated in the #ADAPTandRESIST actions during the #SummerOfADAPT and was arrested in Rochester, New York, Washington, DC and Columbus, Ohio fighting to save healthcare.
The healthcare fight continued during the fall, so it was back to Washington, DC.
Then, it was on to getting members of the House to come off of HR 620, a bill that would gut Title III protections in the Americans with Disabilities Act. I went to Chicago and along with my ADAPT fam from Rochester and Chicago, was arrested at Rep. Bobby Rush's office. Later, he did revoke his sponsorship and vote no on the bill.
For my work with ADAPT, I was awarded the Service to the Self Advocacy Movement Award from the Autistic Self Advocacy Network.
Our fight continues. I and other ADAPTers were arrested in the House Gallery as the House passed the odious HR 620. We are still working on getting cosponsors for HR 2472 and S 910, the Disability Integration Act. The horrible torture of residents by shock "treatments" is still taking place at the Judge Rotenberg Center; I was one of the ADAPTers who braved 12 days in the brutal cold in front of the home of Dr. Scott Gottlieb, Director of the Food and Drug Administration, demanding that he release the regulations that would ban this terrible practice.
So why am I telling you all this?
I need your help! I have volunteered to join in the ADAPT FUN*RUN for Disability Rights which supports Rochester ADAPT work to make community living a reality for everyone.
I will roll my way around Upper Senate Park, Constitution and 1st Street on 05/13/2018 until I complete 25 or so laps.
I would appreciate your support as a sponsor. My goal is to raise $500 or more to help us continue this vitally important work. If 500 people give $1, or 250 people give $2, or 100 people give $5, I'll quickly reach my goal!
Please select the sponsor button above and make a generous pledge for each lap, or a flat donation. No donation is too small. Remember, your donation is tax deductible.
Sincerely,
Anita Cameron
